Summer 2012

July 23

We had a great day on campus today with chaburas, classes, and activities. Tonight’s special guest speaker was Mrs. Esther Wachsman and we then enjoyed a hilarious night activity called “banana measures” – we measured stuff all around camp using bananas as our rulers! Can you guess how tall Mrs. Yudin is in bananas?

Tiyul day tomorrow – more to come after that!

We all enjoyed a wonderful and restful free shabbos with family and friends throughout Israel and returned last night ready for another fabulous week.

Today was our last day with TJJ Ambassadors – we are sad to see them go but had a great experience and hope to keep in touch! See below for a video recapping our 3 days spent together with them. Today we also had a chessed trip collecting crops for Leket Israel who distributes food to needy families, and later tonight, a shiur from our guest speaker Mrs. Dina Schoonmaker and an awesome night activity called “Aliyah L’regel.”

Here’s to the start of another great week on Michlelet NCSY!

What a day!

Not only were we lucky to have classes, chaburas, and activities, but we were even luckier to be joined once again for the day with TJJ Ambassadors!

Late this afternoon we prepared for, decorated, and hosted the bridal shower for our kallah. Afterwards we heard from our guest speaker, Rabbi Gavriel Friedman, and finally, we had our annual basketball game – Michlelet vs. TJJ Ambassadors!

We are packing up for our last free shabbos and are looking forward to another fabulous Michlelet week to follow!

We had a blast yesterday on our tiyul! We braved the heat outside at Masada and the Dead Sea and were then luckily able to cool off in the beautiful waterfalls of Ein Gedi! We returned to camp for dinner and then were treated to a very special surprise – shana bet “broke out” the bridal shower we will be making and hosting on Thursday for a needy kallah (part one of our entire chesed experience – later this summer IY”H we will be making and hosting their wedding)! Night activity was an awesome Privilege Sale with great offers and prizes from our staff and madrichot. All proceeds are going directly to tzedaka, specifically to making the shower and wedding.

Today we had a fantastic day on campus with chaburas, classes, and activities. After dinner we were treated to a hilarious in house play/performance by the Ramat Beit Shemesh Ensemble. For night activity, we had “Project Runway” where we were broken up into teams, given grab bags of dress up clothing, and then instructed to dress up according to different themes.

Can’t wait for another amazing Michlelet day tomorrow!

Today was incredible!!! We woke up early to go greet the Nefesh b’Nefesh flight carrying 229 new olim to Israel – it was a truly special and emotional experience! We then came back to campus to rest and continued with our chaburas and classes. Tonight we heard a special guest shiur from Rabbi Ally Ehrman and then we were treated to an awesome game show night activity!

We are all packed and heading out for our free shabbos! More to come next week!

July 15-16

We’ve had a fabulous start of the week here at Michlelet NCSY!!

We all rested up and rejuvenated over our free shabbos and came back ready for more camp!!!

On Sunday we took a special chesed trip to Shaarei Tzedek hospital and Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital to do medical clowning – we got all dressed up and it felt great to give to others in such a special way! We had a fantastic guest speaker, Rebbetzin Shevi Yudin, who told us personal stories of chesed she experienced in her own life in order to wrap up last week’s theme of chesed. Our Ruach Committee broke out the theme for this coming week – tefillah! We finished up the night with an amazing scavenger hunt around campus.

Today, Monday, we had the privilege of welcoming TJJ Ambassadors to spend 3 days with us this week. TJJ is an NCSY summer program in Israel consisting of public school students who want to feel more connected to Judaism and are spending their summer here developing a love of the land, the people, and of Judaism. The Ambassadors are the cream of the crop and we hope that a few will grow so much that they will be able to join us as Michlelet campers next summer (as we have every year)! We spending the day bonding and getting to know each other, heard from special guest speaker Rabbi Gotch Yudin, showed the TJJ girls around at chaburas, classes, and activities, and showed them our awesome Michlelet ruach at meal time! This afternoon, our shana betters went mountain biking with the TJJ Ambassadors on a gorgeous trail through the Judean Hills. Our guest speaker tonight was Mrs. Sara Leah Haber who told the story and showed us a video about her son who has special needs. Our shana bet girls traveled to the Old City in Yerushalayim where they got to go daven at the Kotel, hear a shiur on a balcony overlooking the Kotel, and finally go on the famous Kotel Tunnel Tours.

Tomorrow we will be going on a HUGE desert tiyul including Massada, Ein Gedi, and the Dead Sea. Stay tuned for more!

Today we enjoyed chaburas, classes, and activities on campus in addition to special shiurim given by guest speakers Rabbi Kenneth Brander, Dean of the Center for the Jewish Future at Yeshiva University, and Mrs. Shira Smiles, popular seminary teacher and lecturer throughout Israel and the US. For night activity we had a “night out at the museum” in order to break out an exciting activity that will be taking place G-d willing Thursday morning when we will be greeting the Nefesh b’Nefesh flight landing in Israel with hundreds of new olim aboard!! We prepared fun and exciting posters that we will be taking with us to the airport.

We are now gearing up for a 2-day overnight trip to Eilat! We will return on Wednesday with an update (and pictures of course!) from our Eilat experience.
